If the day has come to depart from time's shore, A ship bound for the unknown will set sail once more. As if with no passengers, it silently sets out on its way, No handkerchiefs waving, no arms that sway. Those left behind on the dock are filled with sorrow, For days, they look out at the dark horizon, eyes wet and hollow. Oh, helpless hearts! This is not the final ship to leave, Nor the last mourning of a life full of longing and grief. Those loved and loving in this world, they wait in vain, Not knowing that their departed lovers will not return again. Many who’ve left must be content with their own place, Because years have passed, yet not a returning face.
