I wandered through the lands of the infidels, I saw cities and palaces
I roamed the realm of Islam, I saw nothing but ruins
I also found myself in the hospital of the Sublime Porte
There I saw many madmen who did not admire Plato
I never saw a place as tranquil as the corner of a tavern
I saw many assemblies, wine and drinking houses
My path led me to a place called the battleground of the world
Some call it government, there I saw many slaughterhouses
The pleasure of the worldly tavern is unlike any joy
In this pleasure house, I did not stay long, but I saw many things
