The Evening of a Rind*

We stand at the horizon of an irreversible evening, it's too late;
This is the final chapter, o my life pass away as you may!
Even if the dream of returning to the world is imagined,
We do not want to console ourselves in such a way.
With wide wings, pitch black in the emptiness they spread,
And through the great gate where the sun never rises,
Begins the never-ending tranquil night.
In these last gardens against the fading light, joyful,
Either be ruined with enthusiasm or be, lovingly, a heart!
Either a tulip should blossom or a rose in our heart.

Yahya Kemal Beyatlı

* “Rind” is a term that refers to a carefree person who views worldly matters with pleasure. They do not see themselves bound by any religious tradition, relying solely on God indicating a more mystical and abstract understanding of belief.
